September 2007 Myanmar (Burma)
There are about 500,000 monks in Myanmar. They are the ‘social workers’ and community organizers of Myanmar society. When the people rose up the monks stood with them in the streets, unarmed and utterly brave.
Malnutrition is rife in Myanmar because resources are hoarded by the military junta who control all aspects of the economy. Like other dictatorships, Myanmar shares this hallmark of shooting their monks, priests and spiritual leaders.
These brave monks and all of those struggling for a better world demand the same human rights.
